Almost everybody makes New Year resolutions at the turn of a new year. Maybe you have set your financial goals and personal goals of the year, have you considered setting your health goals? That should, in fact, be one of the most important goals of the year to consider. To have a healthy and happy life, a stress free mind is a priority. So, one important New Year resolution is to reduce stress in life. Stress is inevitable in our everyday life. The only thing we can do is to device means of managing it so that it doesn’t become chronic and goes out of hand. Below are 5 New Year resolutions that will help you live a stress free life this year.


1. Learn to cooperate more: 


Cooperation rather than competition reduces stress. If you have a problem that needs to be solved and knows somebody who can help, do not be ashamed to meet that person. Learn to seek for help and to help others as well. Competition can increase one’s stress levels but cooperation minimizes it.


2. Practice acceptance and be mindful of your tendencies: 


Once you start becoming aware of your tendencies, managing stress gets a lot easier. Face the reality of the problems and challenges you have and do not try to escape from them.  This will help you stay positive about the situation and reduce procrastination. Once you accept and understand your problems, it becomes easier to manage which will ultimately reduce the way you worry about it.


3. Examine your values and live by them: 


 You will always feel better when you are able to do the things you set out to do. Your actions should always reflect your beliefs. Always set realistic goals and expectations both in your personal life and at work. That way, you will get a sense of satisfaction when you meet them.  Also, you do not have to meet other’s demands and expectations. Learn how to say no to people when it is inconvenient for you and only accept to do things you know will not interfere with your goals and aspirations.


4. Reduce cause of stress through proper time management.   


One of the major culprits of stress is failure to meet demands and deadlines. Life is filled with so many demands with very little time to accomplish them. Try to practice proper time management this year to help you cope with the high demands in life. Practice proper time management skills by setting priorities, asking for help when appropriate and allowing yourself time to rest from activities. This will ensure that you are not overwhelmed by so many things happening around you.


5. Do away with bad habits.


  Try to stop smoking and taking excessive alcohol. Some people may think that taking alcohol seems to reduce one’s level of stress. In fact, it does add up and even becomes double once the alcohol clears up and the individual is back to his normal senses. Apart from that, the negative impact of alcohol on the heart and liver should be enough reasons not to consider abusing alcohol. If you can’t do away with it completely, reduce the level of your alcohol intake and your stress levels will be greatly minimized.
